Classes Released for Athletic Competition

Volleyball Substate At Plainville

Official school enrollments are collected on September 20th of each school year. The Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) uses the enrollment information to classify schools for post-season competition in all activities. The KSHSAA has released the classification and enrollment information for the 2009-2010 year. Classifications are based on the current enrollment in grades 10, 11, and 12 only. St. Francis has 78 students in these grades and has been classified as a 2A school (enrollment ranging from 77-120).

A list of the Northwest Kansas League schools, their enrollments and classification follows:  Colby  232 4A; Decatur County  86  2A; Goodland  169  3A; Hoxie  53  1A; Oakley  113  2A; Quinter  70  1A; Rawlins County 94  2A; and St. Francis  78  2A. Only three league schools (Oakley, Quinter, and Rawlins County) showed an increase in enrollment in the top three grades when compared to last year.

These classifications will affect post-season competition in all sports except football. Football classifications are determined using the enrollment in grades 9, 10, and 11 and are set for two years. St. Francis will compete in class 2A in the football playoffs this year and also during the 2010-2012 school years.

Post season play in high school volleyball will be at Plainville when the Lady Indians participate in the 2A Sub-State Tournament.  Other teams participating in the tournament are Atwood-Rawlins County, Ellis, Hill City, Oakley, Oberlin-Decatur County, Plainville,St. Francis, Stockton, and Wakeeney-Trego Community. This is one of two 2A sub-states with 9 teams, so the teams with the poorest records will have a "feed-in" match to reach the eight team bracket. The "feed-in" match will be played at 1:00 PM. Bracket play will begin at 2:00 PM and will be played on two courts. Seeding for the tournament will take place on Wednesday, October 21, at 10:00 AM.
