The varsity boys game was a lopsided affair with the undefeated and number one ranked Bulldogs jumping all over the hometown Indians. Using full court pressure, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 0-10 lead only a minute and five seconds into the game. The Indians found themselves behind 0-18 with 3:32 remaining in the first quarter. Isaac Schiltz hit a trey at the 2:44 mark to give St. Francis their only points of the quarter. The Indians trailed 3-25 when the period closed.
In the second quarter, the Indians scored nine points, but the Bulldogs led 5-35 with five minutes to go and by forty 9-49 with 1:41 left in the half. The halftime score was 12-52.
The Bulldogs were just too good on this night. The lead ballooned to fifty (16-66) with 3:35 left in the third and the Indians were behind 18-77 after three quarters of play. The fourth quarter was played with a running clock. The Bulldogs soundly defeated the Indians by a final score of 28-88.
Matt Raile led the Indians in scoring with six points. Trent Raile did not play in the game due to illness. Bird (24), S. Ochs (16), and Smith (13) led the Bulldogs.
Coach Beims had the following comments on the game. "Quinter is a good team, but I don’t think they are 60 points better than us. Friday night was like some sort of dream sequence where your house is on fire and you’re standing there with a glass of water. All you can do is watch it burn, so you might as well drink the water.
We turned the ball over the first 5 times we had it, and Quinter converted each of those into points. We were down 14 before we even had a shot. Granted we were a little short handed, but that’s no excuse. We need to learn to value the ball. We get flustered when pressured, and proceed to make bad decisions because we don’t want the ball. When we did break their press we were out of sorts. Essentially we abandoned everything we knew we should do because we panicked. We had 28 turnovers total, most of those in the first half, and almost all of them resulted in easy buckets for Quinter. That is 28 times we didn’t get a chance to score, and 28 times they were able to get transition baskets without us ever getting our defense set up."
The evening was also Senior-Parent Night. Five seniors and their parents were recognized for their contributions to the basketball programs: Erick Estrada, Dale Northrup (filmer),Matt Raile, Trent Raile, and Drew Zweygardt.
