Junior High Wrestlers Compete in NWKL Tourney

Junior High Wrestling TeamThe junior high wrestling team competed in the Northwest Kansas League Junior High Wrestling Tournament in Atwood on Monday, February 22. The young Indians placed seven wrestlers in the top four positions in the tournament. Scott Warren earned the championship at heavyweight.
Wrestlers placing in the top four positions were: 4th place--Jacob Butler and Gaten Cooper; 3rd place--Austin White and Logan Lampe; 2nd place--Lane Hoffman and Mason Schiltz; and 1st place Scott Warren.
Goodland won the team championship with 207 points. Decatur Community placed second with 160 points and Rawlins County was third at 98. Colby placed 4th, Oakley 5th, St. Francis 6th (77 points), and Hoxie 7th.
"There were many, many exciting matches and to come within 21 points of third place shows how tough this tournament is," commented assistant coach Bruce Swihart.
Coach Steve Jenkins had the following comments on the tournament, "I was really happy for these kids today. Our place wasn't what we wanted (6th), but we showed steady progress and I think we wrestled as well as we could have on this day. It was encouraging to see our kids come together and battle through this tournament--they have grown as a team, I think, and special congratulations to Scott Warren."
