Substate Basketball Brackets Released
The seeding for the 2012 Substate Basketball Tournaments was completed on Wednesday, February 22. The complete brackets for both the boys and girls tournament can be viewed/printed by clicking ON THIS LINK.
Teams participating in the Substate Tournament are: Hoxie, Kensington-Thunder Ridge, Osborne, Quinter, St. Francis, and Stockton. Only six teams are in each substate this year (in the division St. Francis is competing in) as the Kanas State High School Activities Association has changed the classification system to a different format for class 1A. In previous years, class 1A included all teams with a smaller student population than the cutoff for class 2A. This generally resulted in more than 120 teams in class 1A and a regional tournament was required to determine the substate qualifiers. This year, class 1A is divided into two divisions, Division I (the largest 48 1A schools,) and Division II (all other 1A schools). St. Francis is the largest 1A school in Division 1A. The substate winners will qualify for the state tournament held the following week at White Auditorium on the campus of Emporia State University.
The St. Francis Indians (9-9) have earned the right to host a first-round game with a third place seeding in the substate. The Indians will play Osborne (seeded 6th at 0-17) in St. Francis on Monday, February 27, at 6:00 PM.
The Lady Indians (seeded 5th at 5-13) will travel to Osborne (seeded 4th at 7-12) on Tuesday, February 28, for a 6:00 PM contest.
Admission for the first round games is $5 for adults and $4 for students (K-12). NO passes will be accepted. St. Francis students will be required to pay admission as the games are KSHSAA post-season contests.
