Improvements Made to School Facilities
During the summer of 2009, several improvements were made to the school facility. The most noticeable change was the installation of new windows on the west side of the high school building. The windows were installed by Norton Glass Company (Norton, Kansas). The new windows are tinted and very energy efficient. Students and teachers have both noticed a much different "feel" in the rooms--reduced glare, much cooler temperatures when the afternoon sun in is the west, as well as the attractive appearance. The windows should also prove to be much warmer in the winter months as well.
The high school hallway on first floor was also refinished. The walls were repainted and new suspended ceiling was installed. More efficient lighting fixtures with motion activated lighting was also installed. The lower hallway is much more attractive now! The lighting components were donated by Stanion Electric. Thank you, Stanion Electric!
In the elementary school, the grade school computer lab was remodeled. The floor was raised to allow wiring to be routed through the floor. This created a much more attractive and safe environment. New sheetrock walls were installed along with a new suspended ceiling covering the discolored ceiling tiles and various pipes that were running along the walls and ceiling. A storage closet was also built in the room. The lab was completely rewired, and a new surround sound speaker system was installed. A LCD projection system now hangs from the ceiling. The room will soon have a Mimio electronic whiteboard system installed.
The girl's restroom (near the cafeteria) on the first floor of the elementary school was also remodeled. New walls, sink and toilet fixtures, privacy dividers, and blow dryers were installed. This area is now very nice.
The alley behind the elementary school was paved. All work was done by the City of St. Francis. Thanks, city employees!
New volleyball standards and nets have been installed in the high school gymnasium. Part of the cost of the new equipment was paid by the St. Francis Recreation Commission. Thank you, SFRC!
St. Francis administration, faculty, and students are very proud of their schools. These improvements not only make the buildings more energy efficient but also improve the learning environment.
