Twenty Students Have Poetry Selected for Publication
At the end of last school year, Lisa Gibson's English I students submitted poetry to enter in a summer contest. Twenty out of the twenty seven 2008-2009 freshmen's poetry were selected to be published in an anthology book. (Please note: these students are presently sophomores.) The contest consisted of 11,000 entries and 5,811 were accepted to be published so only about 50% of the entries were accepted. Of these, 1,241 were freshmen.
"With these kinds of statistics this is absolutely phenomenal for these "freshmen" students. I'm so very proud of them and their work. It shows these students do have the potential of being a published author," stated Mrs. Gibson.
They are now eligible for prize money and have the opportunity to be selected for the "Top Ten Poems."
Creative Communication commented that the list of students that have been accepted to be published represents alot of talent, hard work, and dedication from them.
Since over 50% of the class was accepted to be published, St. Francis will receive a "Poetic Achievment Award." This honor is given to the top 10% of schools who have entered the contest. The schools are chosen based on the number and quantity of entries accepted.
