Plainsmen Spoil Homecoming

The Oakley Plainsmen executed extremely well on Friday night and came away with a 14-26 win over the Indians on Greene Field. The evening was homecoming for the St. Francis faithful, and many former Indians were in attendance at the game.

With 10:13 on the clock in the first quarter, Trent Raile reached paydirt with a 50 yard run around the right side. Drew Zweygardt threw a key block on the play that allowed Trent to escape down the sideline. Trent also ran for the extra points and the Indians led 8-0.

Oakley answered on their next possession on a 10 yard pass play from quarterback Lex Parsons to Kraig Siruta from 10 yards out.  The two had previously combined for another long pass play to set up the touchdown. The Parsons to Siruta connection was a valuable piece in the Plainsmen's offense all evening. The conversion try was stopped by the Indians.  The score was 8-6, St. Francis leading, with 7:27 left in the first.

The Oakley defense stopped the Indians on their next possession and forced a punt. Oakley then moved the ball down the field, but their drive was stopped on the St. Francis 30 yard line when Terrence Lamb broke up a pass play.

St. Francis again was forced to punt the ball away on their next possession. Oakley then scored on another pass from Parsons to Siruta with 10:30 on the clock in the second quarter. The conversion was good giving the Plainsmen the lead for good, 8-14.

St. Francis then moved the ball down the field well. A pass from Matt Raile to Darris Keller set up 1st and 10 on the Plainsmen 25 yard line. St. Francis could not advance the ball much further and turned over the ball on 4th down on the 20 yard line.

Oakley fumbled the ball on the first play of their possession. Tyler Lauer recovered the ball for the Indians on the 14 yard line. The Indians were threatening, but the Plainsmen defense rose to the occasion and stopped the Indians on the 6 yard line.

With 1:40 left in the half, Trent Raile intercepted a pass on the Oakley 42 yard line. A quick pass play advanced the ball to the Oakley 22 yard line, but again the drive stalled on the Oakley 19 yard line. St. Francis trailed at halftime 8-14.

The next Indian possession included a 35 yard run by Trent Raile and a strong run by Drew Zweygardt, but stalled when a 4th and 12 pass went incomplete.

In their next possession, Oakley moved the ball well and scored with 3:30 in the third quarter on a strong 6 yard run by Tad Parsons. The conversion pass went incomplete, but Oakley had extended their lead to 8-20.

St. Francis moved the ball consistently on their next possession until a fumble gave Oakley the ball back on their own 49 yard line. The Plainsmen then drove the ball down the field and scored on a 14 yard pass from L. Parsons to Siruta. With 8:37 remaining in the 3rd quarter, St. Francis trailed 8-26.

In the 4th quarter, Trent Raile scored on a 50 yard run up the middle. The conversion try failed. The Indians played hard, but lost their homecoming game 14-26.

The next game for the Indians will be Friday, October 2nd, when the Norton Bluejays come to town.
