Four Indians Qualify for State Meet

Four St. Francis Indian athletes turned in state qualifying performances at the 2A Regional Track and Field Meet in WaKeeney on Friday, May 21st. To qualify for the state meet, a top four finish was necessary. 

Matt Raile qualified in three events. Matt ran 11.55 in the 100 meters to place fourth. (Matt ran an 11.2 in the prelims.) Matt placed third in the 200m with a time of 22.95. Matt also qualified in the long jump with a leap of 21' 3 3/4" to place second.

Garrett Figgins qualified in two events. Garrett ran 16.39 in the 110m high hurdles, good enough for a second place finish. Garrett also qualified in the 300m intermediate hurdles with a 42.89 clocking. Garrett placed second in the intermediates also.

Trent Raile placed 3rd in the 400m with a time of 52.32. Alex Long placed fourth in the javelin with a throw of 156' 10". All four will compete in the Kansas State Track and Field Meet in Wichita on Friday and Saturday, May 28 and 29. 

A few other Indian athletes narrowly missed qualifying by placing fifth in the regional meet. The boys 4 x 100 meter relay team (Ty Zweygardt, Trent Raile, Drew Zweygardt, and Matt Raile) placed fifth (44.69). Isaac Schiltz placed fifth in two events, the high jump (5' 8") and pole vault (11' 6"). Marvin Miller was 8th in the 1600m run, running 5:15.14.

St. Francis placed fourth in the team standings scoring 50 points. Osborne and Bennington tied for the boys team championship with 89 points. Sacred Heart placed third with 61 points. The remainder of the team standings included: 5th-Oakley 45, 6th-Plainville 34, 7th-Rawlins County 33, 8th-Republic County 28, 9th-Hill City 25, 10th-Decatur Community 24, 11th-Ellis 22, 12th-Rock Hills 20, 13th-Stockton 12, 13th-Ell-Saline 12, 15th-Solomon 9, 16th-Trego Community 5. 

No Lady Indian athletes scored in the regional meet. Mikaela Grace was 7th in the 400m with a time of 1:05.85 and 8th in the 100m hurdles with at 18.24. Sarah Trembly placed 7th in the discus, throwing 96' 6".
