Football Season Opens in Colby
Launch the media gallery 1 playerThe 2011 high school football season is nearly underway. The opening game of the new season is September 2. The Indians will travel to Colby to lineup against what should be a strong Colby team. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM.
The Indians return nine letter winners. Returning senior letter winners are Jonathan Butler, Gavin Cooper, Martin Hnizdil, and Ty Zweygardt. Junior letter winners that return are Thomas Douthit, Zach Gienger, Dylan Peter, Dillion Straub, and Dylan Wolaver.
Douthit, Hnizdil, and Peter received Northwest Kansas League recognition last year. Team captains for this year's team are Zach Gienger, Dylan Peter, and Ty Zweygardt.
The Indians will play in District 7 along with Atwood-Rawlins County; Oakley; Oberlin-Decatur Community; Ellis; and Leoti-Wichita County. Non-district opponents include Colby, Norton, Holyoke, and Wray. Only six teams remain in the Northwest Kansas League: Atwood, Hoxie, Oakley, Oberlin, St. Francis and Quinter. Hoxie and Quinter play 8-man football while the other four teams remain in the 11-man division.
