Winter Sport Practices Underway
Competition Begins First Week of December
Practice began Monday, November 14th, for the three high school winter sports teams. All three teams are working on basic fundamentals and knowledge of the respective sports in preparation for the upcoming seasons.
The high school wrestling team will be guided by head coach Nathan Smith and assistant Kyle Buffington. Twenty-one boys are participating in the program.
Members of the wrestling team include: Seniors - Austin Manners (Cheylin) and Paul Nelson; Juniors - Thomas Douthit, Zach Gienger, Foster Grant, Blaine Guggenmos, Casey Keller, Michael Leibbrandt, Tyler Raby, and Dylan Wolaver; Sophomores - Lane Hoffman, Logan Lampe, Derek Queen, Austin White, Matt White, and J.T. Woodcox; Freshmen -Shakotah Blanka, Tanner Gilliland, Jonathan Hoard, Matt Howell, and Erik Nelson.
Caitlin Northrup, Taylor Archibald, Dallas Reed, and Jandy Dunn will help as Mat Maids.
The wrestling team will open their season on Saturday, December 3rd, when they host the St. Francis Invitational Wrestling Tournament.
The boys basketball team will be coached by Jeff Beims. Coach Beims will be assisted by Tanner Kinen.
Eighteen young men are participating in boys basketball. Team members include: Seniors - Jonathan Butler, Matt Tygart, and Isaac Schiltz; Juniors - Caleb Frink, Joey McCormick, Steven Nelson, Dylan Peter, Keegan Sherlock, and Dillion Straub; Sophomores - Jacob Baxter, Jacob Butler, Wyatt Landenberger, Tyler Lee, Lennin Olivares, and Mason Schiltz; Freshmen - Cade Bracelin, Nicholas Easter, and Kyler Zweygardt. Sophomore Gaten Cooper will serve as basketball manager.
Susan Dinkel will serve as head coach of the girls basketball team. She will be assisted by David Morrow.
Thirteen girls are vying for positions on the Lady Indians team. Team members include: Seniors - Kaitlin Figgins and Jenna Hill; Juniors - Laura Brunk, Krissy Harris, Audrey Mills, and Clarice Neitzel; Sophomore - Aly Schlepp; Freshmen - Kyla Bandel, Mariah Beikman, Aby Fernandez, McKayla Taylor, Justice Wiley, and Valerie Wurm.
The girls and boys basketball teams will open their seasons on Thursday, December 1st, when they host Dundy County in St. Francis.
