Junior High Girls Lose Close Game In Oberlin

B-Team Wins Easily

The junior high girls competed with Decatur Community on Thursday, February 16th.  The girls split the basketball games with the girls from Oberlin.

St. Francis lost the A-team contest 29-31. The game was close throughout with Decatur Community holding a slim one-point lead after one quarter of play (8-9).  St. Francis outscored the Lady Devils in the second period and led at halftime 16-15.

In the third period, the Lady Indians fell behind again as the teams traded the lead several times. The score stood at 22-23 in favor of the Lady Devils after three quarters.  The Lady Indians fought hard, but lost the contest 29-31.

McKenzie Taylor scored 14 points for the Lady Indians. Emily Elfers (4), Kylie Sherlock (4), Alexis Frink (3), Journey Lee (2) and Sydney Sundstrom (2) added to the the Lady Indians point total.  The team was a perfect 4 of 4 from the free throw line.  Marine led the Lady Devils with 10 points.  The Lady Devils were 7 of 18 from the stripe.

St. Francis easily won the B-team contest.  The B-team played only two periods due to limited player numbers.  St Francis led 6-0 after the first period and won the contest 16-3.

Every Lady Indian playing the game scored.  The St. Francis scoring was led by Katie Schmid and Jenna Confer with 4 points each.  Alexis Frink, Kattie Jenik, MaKayla Rogers, and Sydney Sundstrom each added two points.

The girls will be competing in the Northwest Kansas League Junior High Girls Basketball Tournament on February 20 and 21.  The final rounds of the tournament will be held in St. Francis on Tuesday. The A-team will play Oakley in St. Francis on Monday at 2:00 PM.  St. Francis will not compete in the B-team division of the tournament.
