2014 Seniors Graduate

The 2014 Commencement Exercises were held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, May 18th. Sixteen seniors received their high school diplomas from St. Francis Community High School. Pastor David Butler gave the invocation and benediction. A military recognition was held for past and present service members.

A special recognition was held to honor Jack Weinstein. Jack fought in the Korean War in the U.S. Army. Jack posthumously received the highest honor available to U.S. service members - the Medal of Honor. Jack's wife, Nancy, and other family members attended the ceremony and displayed the medal given in remembrance of Jack's valor to Nancy at the White House by President Barack Obama.

Dr. Jeremy Busby, a 1991 SCFHS graduate, gave the alumni message. Dr. Busby works for the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee. Dr. Busby also instructs courses for the University of Michigan.

The seniors presented flowers to the parents while the class song, "Wherever I Go", was played. Aly Schlepp, senior class vice-president, gave the Senior Farewell, and Bailey Merklin, senior class president, gave the Senior Talk.

Scholarships were presented by Principal David Morrow and Senior Class Advisor Steve Jenkins. Diplomas were presented by Mr. Morrow and USD 297 Board of Education member Shannon Grover. The senior class earned more than $80,000 in scholarships. During the activities, several musical selections were played by the Concert Band under the direction of Debbie Fiala.

Six juniors served as Honor Guard. Honor Guard members were:  Mariah Beikman, Kyla Bandel, Cade Bracelin, Erik Nelson, Ashlee Orth, and Ian Schmid.

Seniors receiving their high school diplomas during the Commencement Exercises and their future plans are listed below:

Jacob DeVance Baxter plans to attend Northwest Technical School in Goodland, Kansas, to study welding.

Jacob Alan Butler plans to attend Christ for the Nations Institute in Dallas, Texas, to study music.

Gaten Aron Cooper plans to attend Colby Community College with a major in biology.  Gaten plans to become an aquarist.

Randee BreAnn Grover will be attending Kansas State University to study pre-medicine with and major in human nutrition.

Lane David Hoffman will be entering the United State Marine Corps.

Logan Anthony Lampe plans to attend Colby Community College to study criminal justice.

Wyatt Levi Landenberger plans to attend Colby Community College to study business.

Steven James McWilliams plans to enter the work world as a professional house painter.

Bailey Morgan Merklin plans to attend Emporia State University to study math education.

Lennin Enrique Olivares will attend Colby Community College to study pre-pharmacy.

Derek Alexander Queen plans to attend Colby Community College before transferring to a major university to study radiology.

Mason Chandler Schiltz plans to attend the University of Kansas to to study pre-optometry.

Alyssa Marie Schlepp plans to attend Wichita State University to study journalism.

Scott Dustin Warren will attend Colby Community College to study computers.

Matthew Luke White will be enlisting in the United States Navy.

John Tanner Woodcox plans to attend Northwest Technical School to study mobile app development.
