Junior High Volleyball Teams Compete with Greeley County

On Thursday, September 11, the Greeley County volleyball teams traveled to St. Francis for competition. The Lady Jackrabbits and the Lady Indians split their contests, with the St. Francis B team winning and the Greeley County A team being victorious.

In B team action, the competition was close throughout game one. St. Francis earned a three-point advantage (11-8) midway through the game but allowed Greeley County within one point before a couple of nice servers from Sierra Robbins regained the three-point advantage (18-15). The score became tied at 20, 21, and 22, before the Lady Indians gave up a point for being out-of-rotation, and the Lady Jackrabbits took a 22-23 lead. St. Francis lost game one 22-25.

Karly Bandel opened game two with several nice serves helping the Lady Indians to a 4-0 lead. The St. Francis advantage grew to 11-4 on an ace serve by Hannah Zimbal, and to 15-6 after a few more serves by Bandel. St. Francis led by eleven (20-9) before the Lady Rabbits went on a long scoring run to narrow the margin to 22-17. A foot fault violation on a Greeley County serve stopped the run, and the Lady Indians went on to win game two 25-18.

The Lady Indians controlled game three. An ace by Karly Bandel gave the Lady Indians a 10-2 advantage. The Lady Indians won game three 15-7 after several more strong serves by Bandel.

The A team lost to Greeley County in two games, 15-25; 20-25. The Lady Indians showed improvement in passing, setting, and attacking the ball, but just could not overcome some good serves by the Lady Jackrabbits. After kills by Jessica Confer and Lindsey Johnson, the Lady Indians led 5-3. An ace by Taylor Kinzer extended the margin to 7-3. The Lady Indians earned a six-point advantage on an ace by Lindsey Johnson. and the score moved to 12-6 on a kill by Shalyn Zweygardt. Greeley County reeled off several consecutive points to take a 13-14 advantage before missing a service attempt. St. Francis tied the score at 15-all on a kill by Lauren Johnson off a nice set by Jessica Confer. Unfortunately, poor passing by the Lady Indians allowed Greeley County to score the next ten points to take game one.

Greeley County jumped out to a 6-14 lead in game two. Consecutive ace serves by Lauren Johnson trimmed the lead to 11-15, and the Lady Indians pulled to within two points (14-16) before giving up the serve. Greeley County extended the lead to 15-21 before a nice tip-kill by Jessica Confer got St. Francis on the scoreboard again. The Lady Indians were defeated in game two, 20-25.

In C team action, St. Francis defeated Greeley County 25-23; 25-18.

The volleyball teams will play Dighton at Healy on Thursday, September 18.
