Indians Win NWKL Track Championship

Lady Indians Place 2nd

The St. Francis Indians scored 120 team points to win the Northwest Kansas League Track and Field Championship in Atwood on Thursday, May 14. The Indians won the 4 X 100 meter relay, the 4 X 400 meter relay, the 4 X 800 meter relay, and had several individual event winners. Cade Bracelin won the shot with a toss of 42' 7.25". Dalton Straub won the long jump with a leap of 18' 6.5", and Garrett Brunk won the 300 meter hurdles in a time of 44.17. Many other Indians turned in fine performances to add to the team total.

The Lady Indians placed second in the team race with 89 points. The Lady Indians had three individual event winners. McKenzie Taylor won the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.57. Emily Elfers won the 300 meter hurdles clocking 51.80. Dallas Reed cleared 10' 0" to win the pole vault and set a new NWKL meet record.

Boys Division

The Indians amassed 120 team points to win the NWKL Championship. Wallace County placed second with 99 team points. Decatur Community placed third with 92. The remainder of the boys team scores were:  4th - Rawlins County 70, 5th - Hoxie 45, 6th - Dighton 42, 7th - Greeley County 40, and 8th - Quinter 34.

Indians placing in the NWKL Meet are listed below.

Cade Bracelin:  1st in shot put - 42' 7.25", 2nd in javelin - 153' 9", 4th in discus - 120' 9"

Garrett Brunk:  1st in 300 meter hurdles - 44.17, 5th in 110 meter hurdles - 18.39

Quinton Cravens:  4th in triple jump - 37' 3.25", 5th in 200 meters - 25.16

Carl Fabre:  6th in 100 meters - 12.32

Jake Faulkender:  2nd in 3200 meters - 12:22.20, 5th in 1600 meters - 5:34.36

Jude Faulkender:  3rd in shot put - 39' 10.5", 5th in discus - 119' 2"

Chris Hoard:  6th in 1600 meters - 5:40.48

Lane Hobrock:  4th in 200 meters - 24.69

Matt Howell:  2nd in 800 meters - 2:14.66

J.R. Landenberger:  4th in 100 meters - 12.24

Erik Nelson:  6th in 110 meter hurdles - 19.56

Travis Rogers:  4th in long jump - 17' 10.25"

Dalton Straub:  1st in long jump - 18' 6.5", 5th in triple jump - 36' 10"

Kyler Zweygardt:  6th in discus - 117' 9"

4 X 100 meter relay:  1st - 45.86 - Taylor Rogers, Carl Fabre, Lane Hobrock, J.R. Landenberger

4 X 400 meter relay:  1st - 3:37.86 - Taylor Rogers, Quinton Cravens, Garrett Brunk, Lane Hobrock

4  800 meter relay:  1st - 8:51.45 - Jake Faulkender, Justin Pacheco, Tate Busse, and Matt Howell

Girls Division

The Decatur Community Lady Red Devils won the Northwest Kansas League championship scoring 117 points. The St. Francis Lady Indians earned second place with 89 team points. The rest of the the NWKL teams finished in the following order:  3rd - Quinter 81, 4th - Dighton 76, 5th - Rawlins County, 6th - Hoxie 56, 7th - Greeley County 38, and 8th Wallace County 32.

Lady Indians scoring in the NWKL meet are listed below.

Kyla Bandel:  6th in discus - 83' 2"

Emily Elfers:  1st in 300 meter hurdles - 51.80

Jylian Laten:  6th in 3200 meters - 17:02.64

Journey Lee:  2nd in pole vault - 8' 0", 6th in triple jump - 29' 7"

Dallas Reed:  1st in pole vault - 10' 0" (NEW NWKL MEET RECORD)

Zoe Sundstrom:  3rd in 100 meter hurdles - 18.43, 5th in 300 meter hurdles - 55.76

McKayla Taylor:  3rd in 300 meter hurdles - 54.25, 4th in triple jump - 31' 7"

McKenzie Taylor:  1st in 100 meter hurdles - 17.57

Val Wurm:  3rd in 100 meters - 13.22; 3rd in 200 meters - 28.08

4 X 100 meter relay:  2nd - 52.05 - McKayla Taylor, Valerie Wurm, Kayla Reed, McKenzie Taylor

4 X 400 meter relay:  3rd - 4:40.00 - Emily Elfers, Ashlee Orth, Kylie Sherlock, Madi Tice

4 X 800 meter relay:  4th - 11:46.46 - Emily Elfers, Mallory Mills, Emileigh Dinkel, and Reagan Beims

The high school track teams will be competing in the Regional Track Meet on Friday, May 22. The meet will be held at Lewis Field on the campus of Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas.
