Track Teams Compete at Regionals - Qualify Many For State Meet

The St. Francis track teams performed well in the Regional Track and Field Meet at Hays on Friday, May 22. The weather conditions made track performances somewhat difficult, but the athletes still turned in some good performances. By placing in the top four positionsin their events, St. Francis qualified nineteen athletes (24 including alternates) for the State Track Meet in Wichita on Friday and Saturday, May 29 and 30.

Indians and Lady Indians qualifiying for the State Track Meet (including alternates) are:  Cade Bracelin, Garrett Brunk, Tate Busse, Quinton Cravens, Emily Elfers, Carl Fabre, Jake Faulkender, Jude Faulkender, Lane Hobrock, Matt Howell, J.R. Landenberger, Journey Lee, Jacob McWilliams, Jeremiah Neitzel, Justin Pacheco, Dallas Reed, Kayla Reed, Taylor Rogers, Dalton Straub, Zoe Sundstrom, McKayla Taylor, McKenzie Taylor, Madison Tice, and Valerie Wurm.

St. Francis athletes won three events at the Regional Meet. Cade Bracelin won the javelin with a toss of 169' 5". The toss also set a new St. Francis school record. The old record (164' 7") was set by Levi Weeden in 2007. Dallas Reed cleared 10' 0" to place first in the girls pole vault. The girls 4 X 100 meter relay team consisting of Kayla Reed, McKayla Taylor, McKenzie Taylor, and Valerie Wurm also placed first with a time of 52.62. Girls Division

The Lady Indians placed second in the Regional Meet scoring 46 team points. Wheatland-Grinnell placed first with 86 points. Quinter placed 3rd with 45 team points. Downs-Lakeside and Almena-Northern Valley tied for 4th with 43. Other team placings were:  6th - Hoxie 40, 7th - Logan 39, 8th (tie) - Winona-Triplains & Natoma 28, 10th - Rexford-Golden Plains 27, 11th - Stockton 21, 12th - Wallace County 20, 13th - Weskan 18, 14th - Otis Bison 16, 15th - Cheylin 14, 16th - Victoria 12; 17th - Palco 11, 18th - LaCrosse 10, 19th - Wilson 4, 20th - Osborne 3, 21st (tie) - Ransom-Western Plains & Kensington-Thunder Ridge 2. 

Lady Indians placing in the girls division are listed below.

Emily Elfers:  4th in 300 meter hurdles (51.83)

Journey Lee:  4th in pole vault (8' 6")

Dallas Reed:  1st in pole vault (10' 0")

McKenzie Taylor:  3rd in 100 meter hurdles (17.27)

Valerie Wurm:  2nd in 100 meter dash (13.47); 4th in 200 meter dash (27.98)

4 X 100 meter relay:  1st - McKayla Taylor, Valerie Wurm, Kayla Reed, and McKenzie Taylor (52.62)

 

Boys Division

The Indians earned a tie for 6th place in the boys division with 37 team points. Osborne won the boys division with 96 points. LaCrosse placed third with 65 points. The remainder of the teams finished in the following order:  4th - Stockton 53, 5th - Brewster 39, 6th (tie) - St. Francis & Wallace County 37, 8th (tie) - Otis-Bison & Hoxie 36, 10th - Quinter 18, 11th - Logan 16, 12th - Almena-Northern Valley 15, 13th - Weskan 12, 14th - Downs-Lakeside 11, 15th - Winona-Triplains 10, 16th - Wilson 9, 17th - Cheylin 6, 18th - Palco 5, 19th - Victoria 2, and 20th - Kensington-Thunder Ridge 1.

Indians placing in the Regional Meet are listed below.

Cade Bracelin:  1st in javelin (169' 5") NEW SCHOOL RECORD; 3rd in shot put (44' 8.25"); 5th in discus (125' 7")

Jude Faulkender:  4th in discus (126' 4"); 6th in shot put (42' 0.50")

4 X 100 meter relay team:  4th - Carl Fabre, Taylor Rogers, Lane Hobrock, and J.R. Landenberger (45.81)

4 X 400 meter relay team:  3rd - Taylor Rogers, Garrett Brunk, Quinton Cravens, and Lane Hobrock (3:41.21)

4 X 800 meter relay team:  4th - Jake Faulkender, Matt Howell, Justin Pacheco, and Tate Busse (9:02.38)

The Kansas State High School Track and Field Meet will be held at Cessna Stadium on the campus of Wichita State University in Wichita on Friday and Saturday, May 29 and 30. Click on this link to view the competition schedule for St. Francis athletes.  Ticket prices are $8 for adults and $7 for students (K-12) daily. Please note:  Only officials, contestants with numbers, and approved media will be allowed access to the infield at the stadium. All coaches, managers, and fans must remain in the stands. No coolers or backpacks will be permitted.
