High School Winter Sports Begin

High school winter sports practice began on Monday, November 16. The date, as regulated by the Kansas State High School Activities Association, was the first day that Kansas schools could have practice for the winter sports seasons. Practice is now in full swing for wrestling and basketball at St. Francis High School.

The wrestling team will be coached by Dylan Loyd and Kyle Buffington. Eight athletes have reported for wrestling including:  Seniors--Garrett Brunk and Clay DeWaal; Sophomores--Coy DeWaal, Trayton Doyle, and Luin Norris; Freshmen-- Cody Baxter, Kouper McQuigg, and Tiernan Poling.

The high school girls basketball team has fourteen players. The team will be coached by Shalynn Kaus and Matt Bandel. Girls participating in basketball are:  Seniors--Journey Lee, Kayla Reed, and Kylie Sherlock; Sophomores--Reagan Beims, Hanna Bracelin, Emileigh Dinkel, Jylian Laten, Mallory Mills, Zoe Sundstrom, Madison Tice, and Matthisen Witzel; Freshmen--Jessica Confer, Lauren Johnson, and Lindsey Johnson.

The boys high school basketball team will be coached by Corey Busse and Rodney Yates. Twenty-two student-athletes have reported for boys basketball. Boys participating in basketball include:  Seniors--Jakob Church, Carl Fabre, Jude Faulkender, Francisco Fernandez, Chris Hoard, Lane Hobrock, and Justin Pacheco; Juniors--Quinton Cravens, Jeremiah Neitzel, Taylor Rogers, and Brock Waters; Sophomores--Tate Busse, Jake Faulkender, Dennis Potter, and Dalton Straub; Freshmen--Wyatt Hilt, Draven Houtman, Connor Keller, K.C. Krien, Jordan Raby, Bryce Raby, and Tayton Weeter.

Competition for the basketball teams will begin on Friday, December 4, when the teams will play against Decatur Community in St. Francis. The first competition for the wrestling team will be on Saturday, December 5, when the varsity team will compete in the St. Francis Invitational Wrestling Tournament and the junior varsity wrestlers will compete at the Goodland Novice Tournament.
