Community Fitness Center Opening Announced

The St. Francis Community Fitness Center is a joint effort of the St. Francis Recreation Commission and USD 297, established to provide a means to increase the health and wellness of our adult citizens.

The Recreation Commission is the entity operating the center and will take care of the day to day activities, accounting, access cards, maintenance, etc... USD 297 provides the room and utilities for the fitness center.

Funding for the equipment and accessories in the fitness center was paid for from a grant written by Cheyenne County Grant Writer Carol Sloper to the Dane G. Hansen Foundation. The Hansen Foundation donated $17,300 to the project, which did, in fact, pay for the majority of the room. The St. Francis Recreation Commission funded the remainder of the expenses as needed. We are very grateful to the Dane G. Hansen Foundation for their support of this project and other donations made to our community.

The date of opening for the St. Francis Community Fitness Center has been set for February 15, 2016. There will be an open house on Friday, February 5, 2016, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. in conjunction with the home basketball game for citizens to view the room and sign up for membership. Membership fees include $12 to purchase an access card and $20/year for the membership fees. Membership fees will be used to pay for cleaning and maintenance of the room. Click this link to download and print the MEMBERSHIP FORM.

The fitness center is located at the rear of the high school building and is adjacent to the wood and ag shops. There is a door on the south wall to enter; the entrance will be labeled as such.
