Junior Varsity Lady Indians Beat Goodland, Hoxie

SAINT FRANCIS, KS -- The Saint Francis Varsity Lady Indians beat Goodland and lost to Hoxie in a volleyball matchup on Tuesday, August 30 at Saint Francis Community High School.

For the first time in several years, the Lady Indians won a set against Hoxie, 25-19. The second second set the ladies fought hard in a close game but lost, 20-25. The last set Hoxie pulled away with the win, 14-25.

“That’s the first time we’ve beat Hoxie in a set in a long time so we were super pumped,” said Katie Schmid, St. Francis senior. “Everybody was smiling and ready to go for the next one.”

The Lady Indians fought a close game against Goodland, losing the first set 24-26, but coming back with a win the second and third sets, 25-22 and 25-23.

“Tonight's matches were really fun! I think we have a lot of potential to be great if we keep working and playing together,” said Hanna Bracelin, St. Francis junior. “My favorite part about volleyball is that you can be down by seven points and come back to tie. It's all about momentum.”

Emileigh Dinkel, St. Francis junior, said she enjoys being down and coming back to win.

“My favorite part of the matches tonight was beating Goodland,” Dinkel said. Both games were very exciting to watch and the crowd showed how much St. Francis cared for their team by their sheer volume. Dinkel and Bracelin both said the crowd is important.

“The crowd is a big part of the game,” Bracelin said. “It encourages us when we're down and helps us stay up when we need it.”
