Jr. High VB Teams Lose to Hoxie

Though the Lady Indians were very competitive, Hoxie won all of the volleyball matches played on Thursday, October 6, in St. Francis. St. Francis played competitively against the older, more experienced Hoxie teams, but could not earn a win.

B Team

The B team match scores were 18-25, 22-25. St. Francis jumped out to a 5-0 lead on some good serves by Rian Zimbal, including two aces. After a Hoxie time-out, the Lady Indians increased their lead to 10-1 before committing a passing error to stop the run. Hoxie trimmed the deficit to 7-12 before a four-point run by the Lady Indians increased the St. Francis lead to 16-7. In the run Amy Jenkins recorded a kill and Hailey Robbins an ace. Hoxie continued to chip away at the lead and eventually tied the game at 18-all on an ace serve. Many of the points in the came on excellent serves by Hoxie's Molly Foote. Hoxie would continue on to win the game on strong serves 18-25.

In game two, the Lady Indians fell behind early due to passing errors and trailed 5-16. Behind some consistent serving by Hailey Robbins, the Lady Indians narrowed the deficit to 10-16. The margin remained 6 points until a three-point Lady Indian run closed the gap to 15-18. The run ended on a nice tip-kill by Hoxie. A kill by Robbins, on a nice set by Jesslynn Houtman, moved the score to 17-20. The Lady Indians played competitively, but could never overcome the early deficit. A well-executed dump-set by Hoxie concluded the game. Hoxie won set two 22-25.

A Team

The A-team contests were closely competed also. Hoxie jumped out to a 2-6 advantage in game one, but the Lady Indians rallied back to tie the game at 9-all capitalizing on an ace by Talexa Weeter, a kill by Mia Morrow, and an ace by Ellee Krien. After a SF missed serve ended the run, Hoxie reeled off seven unanswered points to lead 9-16. Most of the points in the run were a result of the Lady Indians' difficulty in passing serves from Hoxie's Baylee McKenna. The Lady Indians narrowed the margin to 15-20, but lost 15-25 after making five successive passing errors to close the game.

Game two followed a similar pattern. Hoxie leaped out to a 0-7 lead. St. Francis narrowed the margin to four points (4-8) but then fell behind 8-19 before making a five-point run to close the deficit to 13-19. The five-point run was due some strong serves by Mia Morrow as well as good team play. Another five-point run, triggered by excellent serves by Talexa Weeter, moved St. Francis within one point (20-21). Hoxie responded with three kills on the last four volleys to win the second game 20-25.

C Team

In C team action, St. Francis trailed 6-14 early, but an ace by Madison Barnhart narrowed the deficit to 11-17. Hoxie then rallied to score five consecutive points (3 passing errors and two aces) to lead 11-22. St. Francis lost game one 13-25.

Game two opened with two aces by Madison Barnhart. Hoxie then took a 2-point advantage before St. Francis tied the game at 7-all when Hoxie had difficulty handling a hit by Bailey Workman.
