A Glimpse in the Life of the Busiest High Schoolers

In high school, it could be easy to become unorganized and lose track of everything going on. However, this is not a possibility for St. Francis Juniors Madison Tice and Emileigh Dinkel, as well as St. Francis Sophomores Lauren Johnson and Lindsey Johnson, who arguably have the busiest schedules at school.

Most Fridays for these girls consist of volleyball practice at six in the morning, pom practice after school, eating dinner with cheerleaders and then cheering until the end of the game, never leaving school grounds until 9:00 p.m.; all the while doing homework to keep and maintain good grades. Dinkel said this busy schedule has helped her develop time management skills.

The girls are involved in much more than just cheer, pom, and volleyball. They also juggle band, vocal, FFA, the Big Buddy Program and yearbook. However, none of them said they would change anything about being so busy. “I would not change anything because I like to be involved in the school. I like being busy with activities,” said Lindsey Johnson.

Often times they stay organized by setting reminders on their phones, group messages, homework folders, and using planners.

In real life, everyone will need to know how to prioritize. These girls understand the importance and consequently are always on time even during the summer, when things get even busier. Summer schedules for these girls are crammed with volleyball, basketball, weights, leaving for week-long camps and then when they get back these girls need to pack everything back up and go somewhere else. These girls are also juggling have summer pom practice and camps, cheer practice and camps, and Dinkel has 4-H as well. “It all helps with time management. Also, it helps me with how to keep organized in busy situations,” said Lauren Johnson.

Sleep is one of the most important things to keep up with everything going on. Lindsey Johnson said she needs her sleep at night in order to be rested for the next day’s activities. She said it has made her a better leader to other people around the school. “It has affected me by making me a leader to show how things should be done. I always try to set a great example.”

Being busy comes with great advantages, such as making friendships. “I do feel closer because I am with them everyday. Also they are super fun to be around. So I do look forward to those times I am with them,” said Lauren Johnson. Dinkel had a little different approach, she said she thought everyone is closer because we also know how hectic and crazy things can get so we can all relate to each other.

These busy girls said they would recommend other students to follow in their footsteps and get as involved in school activities as possible. “It is nice being able to be a part of so many things at SFCHS. It’s a great opportunity and you make awesome memories,” said Lindsey Johnson. Dinkel said students need to be sure to stay smart and organized because that is a major key to success.
