Saint Francis FFA took a senior team to compete at the district Vet Science Career Development Event on Tuesday, November 29 in Stockton, Kansas.

“Competing in vet science is just one of multiple CDEs I will be competing in to better myself in FFA,” said Saint Francis junior Coy DeWaal.

At the Vet Science CDE, students took a 50-question test along with a math test that was 10 questions and identified 50 different vet tools, animals, and parasites. They had 654 choices to choose from when identifying these animals, parasites, and tools.

“I think I competed very well. I did better than I thought I would,” said Emileigh Dinkel, Saint Francis Junior.

In the end, the team finished in 10th place. Out of 95 competitors, Mason Schmid, Saint Francis sophomore, placed highest on the team in 34th place. Behind him was Emileigh Dinkel, Saint Francis junior, in 41st place, Reagan Beims, Saint Francis junior, in 55th, and Joel Hill, Saint Francis senior, in 59th place.

“It’s a lot of work, but if you’re interested in being a vet it’s a lot of fun,” said Mason Schmid, Saint Francis sophomore.
