St. Francis Wins Sportsmanship Award

St. Francis High School was recently notified that they were selected as winners of the Sportsmanship Award at the Kansas State Basketball Tournament. This is an honor that all players, coaches, and fans should proud of earning. The school will be receiving a plaque and the cheerleaders a medal for the Sportsmanship Award.

The following email was recently sent to Principal David Morrow. It is from one of the officials who worked the State Tournament.

To: Parents, Patrons and Student Athletes,

I was in attendance at the 1A State tournament last week in Hays.  I was fortunate enough to be selected to officiate as well at this tournament. I live an hour north of Topeka and knew very little about your town and school before this weekend.  I was amazed at how professional and polite Coach Busse was at this tournament.  I truly enjoyed watching the St. Francis team play as well as Coach Busse coach.  He was dressed extremely well and his players acted with class.  I didn't get the opportunity to officiate any of your team’s games, but from what I saw this last weekend, I will work your team and coach any time.  The community of St. Francis should be proud of how their school was represented.  Please pass this on to your team and community.  Coaches that act this way are few and far between.  It makes you really appreciate one when you are fortunate enough to run across one.  Several of the other officials noticed this as well.

I wish Coach and his team the best of luck in the future years and I hope to be able to watch him lead a team back to the state tournament in the near future.
