Track Team Sets Two New School Records

The Colby invitational Track and Field Meet scheduled for Friday, May 5, was canceled due to the heavy snow in the Colby area. The St. Francis track teams traveled to Lakin, Kansas, for a replacement meet. Though the meet ran well into the night, the track teams performed well. Two new SFCHS school records were set during the meet. Relay teams comprised of Tate Busse, Wyatt Hackler, Jordan Raby, and Taylor Rogers set new school records in the 4 X 100 meter relay and 4 X 400 meter relay. The young men combined to clock a time of 43.96 in the 4 X 100. The time bettered the old record of 44.28 set by Thomas Douthit, Logan Lampe, Mikey Leibbrandt and Derek Queen set in 2013. The new 4 X 400 record of 3:24.33 erased the record of 3:28.62 set by Jason Applegate, Kale Dankenbring, Chris Lampe, and Chad Wolfe set in 1992. The 4 X 400 time also was better than the current state record in the event.

Competition was tough at the Lakin Invitational. The Indians scored 61 points to place third in the team scoring. The Lady Indians placed 13th with 12 team points. The only first place event win for St. Francis was the boys 4 X 100 meter relay.
