Junior High Volleyball Teams Sweep Dighton

The junior high volleyball teams had close contests with the Dighton Lady Hornets on Thursday, September 14, but the Lady Indians sweep each of the three matches in two sets. The young Lady Indians demonstrated good skills and focus throughout the matches. The evening began with the B team match. St. Francis earned a 25-23, 25-21 win. In set one, the early portion of the game was played evenly, and the match became tied at 14-all. The Lady Hornets then scored 6 consecutive points to take a 20-14 lead. The Lady Indians held strong, and eventually retied the game at 20-all behind some consistent serves from Hadleigh Hilt. A kill by Angela Ramirez gave the Lady Indians a 21-20 advantage. The next kill by Ramirez moved the score to 23-22. Bailey Workman recorded a kill off-the-net for the Lady Indians' 24th point. The final volley ended with another kill by Ramirez giving the Lady Indians a 25-22 win. The Lady Indians won another close contest in the second set 25-21.

In A team action, the teams battled back-and-forth just like the previous match. St. Francis earned a 10-7 advantage on a kill by Mia Morrow, but an over-pass kill by Dighton's Traci Cramer narrowed the margin and the next strong kill by Cramer tied the contest at 11-all. Dighton missed their next service attempt, and McKenna Poling followed with an ace serve for the Lady Indians. The Lady Indians scored a three-point run capitalizing on miscues by the Lady Hornets to stretch the lead to 16-12 before missing a serve of their own. Strong serves by Talexa Weeter bolstered the Lady Indians and helped account for the next Lady Indian run of 8 points before another missed serve stopped the run. Weeter recorded four aces and Jordyn Faulkender a kill during the flurry. The Lady Indians earned a 25-15 win on a missed service attempt by Dighton.

In game two, the Lady Indians only allowed Dighton one run of three points in the set while earning runs of 5, 3, and 4. The short runs proved to be the difference in the set. Dighton's three-point run gave the Lady Hornets a 7-10 advantage, but then Dighton missed a serve. St. Francis eventually tied the set at 12-all on a tip by Jordyn Faulkender and took a 14-12 lead on a kill by Talexa Weeter. Dighton tied the match following two St. Francis attack errors, but then the Lady Indians added a three-point run including a Faulkender kill that moved the score to 17-14. The next Lady Indian run of four-points increased the advantage to 22-16. The run featured a stuff and kill by McKenna Poling and a Dighton passing error on a nice serve by Jesslynn Houtman. St. Francis won set two 25-19.

The C team earned a 25-22, 25-21 win over the Lady Hornets.

The Lady Indians will play in Atwood on Saturday, September 16.
