Jake Places 3rd at NWKL Meet
Jake Faulkender placed third overall and first out of seniors in his first varsity league meet with a time of 18:35. "It was a lot of fun running at league. I had no idea what to expect, but it was a real learning experience. I felt I ran good, but there’s always room for improvement," said Faulkender.
While the distance was the standard five kilometer, 3.1 miles, Faulkender said it was a different experience. Most of the varsity boy races start close to 11 in the morning, this race had an added challenge of beginning in the late afternoon. "This course was for the most part just one loop, where as all of the meets I’ve been to in the past have had repeated sections of the course. I’m not sure what effect that had on me, but I kind of enjoyed it."
As he matures as a runner, his goals and expectations continue to change depending on the course, competition and day, but one goal continues to allude Faulkender. With only a couple meets left in the season, he continues to chase a season goal of running a sub 18 minute race. Faulkender laces up for regionals on the 21st and hopes to get another race in prior to the state qualifying race.
