Good Udder, “Dairy” Cows

On Wednesday October 18, 2017, several members of the St. Francis FFA were in Bird City, Kansas, at a Dairy Cattle Evaluation. Participants had to judge four classes of dairy cows and two classes of heifers. All members had to present two sets of oral reasons to the judges. Those members placing in the top ten received medals and the top three teams were awarded plaques. There were seven members on the senior team:  Karly Bandel, Jake Falkender, Matthisen Witzel, Janeth Perez-Medina, Echoe Lennox, Mason Schmid, and Marlo Jensen. Senior top ten placers were Jake Faulkender placing 6th and Matthisen Witzel 8th. The seniors as a teamed took the 2nd place plaque home.

On the greenhand team there were seven freshman participants;  Colton Neitzel, Jesse Baxter, Kattie Wurm, Garin Cooper, Shadryon Blanka, Jasper Hunt, and Emma Johnson. Lead by the dairy judger's motto, "good udder, dairy cows," the highest Greenhand placers who were also awarded medals were Colton Neitzel placing 1st, Jesse Baxter 6th, and Kattie Wurm 8th. MIlk Quality and Dairy Products & Food Science are the next CDE's. They are on Thursday November 9, 2017 in Hays, Kansas. The members will have the opportunity to compete individually and as a team at both events.
