Junior High Boys Lose to Hoxie

On Tuesday, November 7, the junior high boys basketball teams played Hoxie in St. Francis. The young Indians split their games with Hoxie. St. Francis won the B-team contest played at the Grade School by a score of 39-15. The A-team was defeated by Hoxie 10-67. The C-team boys played a two-quarter contest with Hoxie losing 3-8.

In the B-team contest, St. Francis led 4-0 after one quarter and extended their lead to 15-5 at halftime. The Indians continued to widen the margin throughout the contest, stretching the lead to 20 points (29-9) at the third quarter break to eventually win 39-15. Five young Indians scored in the game including:  Preston Witzel 14, Ben Busse 10, Colton Raile 6, Jordan Smull 5, and Garrett Helton 4.

Hoxie completely dominated the A-team contest leading 0-26 after one period and 1-43 at halftime. With 3:48 left in the second quarter, Jordan Smull made 1 of 2 from the line to get the Indians on the scoreboard. In the third period, with the Hoxie substitutes seeing most of the playing time, the Indians got a basket from Preston Witzel and Ben Busse. The Indians trailed at the third quarter break 5-56. The final period was played with a running clock. St. Francis lost to a good Hoxie team 10-67.

Scoring for the Indians in the A-team game were:  Ben Busse 5, Preston Witzel 4, and Jordan Smull 1. Hoxie was led by Ashton Dowell (17), Cade Gourley (14), and Brady Jones (9).

The Indians will play Wallace County, in St. Francis, on Thursday, November 9. Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m.
