Junior High Girls Dominate Quinter

On Monday, November 20, the junior high girls basketball teams defeated the Quinter Lady Bulldogs in St. Francis. The A-team opened the evening in the High School Gymnasium with a dominating 41-10 performance. The B-team defeated Quinter at the Grade School by a score of 38-12. The C-team girls played a 1-quarter contest with the Lady Indians losing 4-8.

Quinter's Bryton Mesch opened the scoring in the A-team contest, but an assist from Mia Morrow led to an out-of-bounds play basket by Jordan Faulkender to tie the contest. Lyden Lampe then added a basket from the right wing after an offensive rebound. Neither team scored in the second half of the first period, and St. Francis led 4-2 at the break.

Quinter's Jadelyn Betz opened the second period with fast-break basket on press-offense (plus one) to give Quinter a 4-5 lead. It would be the last lead the Lady Bulldogs would own. Consecutive baskets by Talexa Weeter gave the Lady Indians a bit of breathing room, and with the addition of an offensive rebound score by Mia Morrow, an out-of-bounds play basket by Jordan Faulkender, a baseline drive by Weeter, and two offensive rebound scores by Faulkender and Ellee Krien, the Lady Indians held a 19-7 lead at halftime.

The Lady Indians extended their advantage to 30-7 before Quinter scored again. Talexa Weeter added three baskets and Jordan Faulkender two to open the third period. After a free-throw by the Lady Bulldogs, Mia Morrow and Ellee Krien scored on offensive rebound baskets moving the scoreboard to 34-8. With the addition of a Weeter trey and steal-two later in the contest, the Lady Indians earned a 41-10 victory.

Scoring for St. Francis were:  Talexa Weeter 19, Jordan Faulkender 10, Mia Morrow 4, Ellee Krien 4, Lyden Lampe 2, and Rian Zimbal 2. Quinter was led by Ava Gillespie with 4 points.

In B-team action, St. Francis jumped out to a 13-2 lead at the first quarter break. During the period, the Lady Indians received scoring from Hadleigh Hilt, Bailey Workman, Molly Gilliland, and Miah Hackney.

Janie Ramiez, Dani Boughman, and Molly Gilliland added points to the Lady Indian side of the scoreboard in period two. The Lady Indians led 21-4 at halftime.

With thirteen girls receiving playing time in the contest, the Lady Indians rolled to a 38-12 victory. Scoring for the Lady Indians in the B-team game were:  Molly Gilliland 8, Hailey Robbins 8, Miah Hackney 6, Hadleigh Hilt 6, Dani Broughman 4, Lyden Lampe 2, Janie Ramirez 2, and Bailey Workman 2. Quinter was led by 8th grader Evie Deaton with 8 points.
