Junior High Boys Split with Rawlins County

The junior high boys basketball teams split their games with Rawlins County on Thursday, November 30, in St. Francis. St. Francis won the B-team contest 42-18. Rawlins County won the A-team match-up 28-51. Rawlins County won a running clock C-team game 3-16.

Rawlins County wasted little time in establishing full control of the A-team contest. The visiting Buffaloes jumped out to a 0-5 lead getting two quick baskets by Erwin Flores and a free-throw by Joshua Popp. Ben Busse drained a trey from the right corner to answer, but Flores scored again from the post on the next Rawlins County (RC) possession. Vladimir Chinik scored on a top-of-the-key trey to narrow the gap to 6-7, but Indians did not score again in the period. RC led 6-18 at the end of the first period.

St. Francis could only muster one field goal in the second period, a deuce by Preston Witzel in the last minute of the first half. St. Francis trailed 8-30 at halftime.

Rawlins County extended the lead to thirty points (8-38) at the 4 minute mark of the third period. Ben Busse scored from the left baseline and then added a trey from the right wing in the second half of the period. Colton Raile added an offensive rebound basket late in the period to bring the third quarter score to 15-43.

Preston Witzel added a trey early in the final period and then scored on an assist from Shannon Rethke moments later (20-47). Preston added two driving baskets (one a "plus one") and Vladimir Chinik a left-wing trey to close the St. Francis scoring. St. Francis lost to Rawlins County 28-51 in the A-team game.

Scoring for St. Francis were:  Preston Witzel 12, Ben Busse 8, Vladimir Chinik 6, and Colton Raile 2. Rawlins County was led by Erwin Flores with 11. Isaac Domsch scored 10 and Joshua Popp 7. Ten players added points to the RC point total.

St. Francis led 9-4 after one period of B-team action. The Indians held the Buffs scoreless in the second stanza and led 25-4 at halftime. In the second period, Preston Witzel scored 10 points, Garrett Helton 3, and Ben Busse 2 to open the margin.  St. Francis led 30-12 after three periods and won the B-team game 42-18.
