Junior High Girls Play at Goodland

A-team tip-off

On Tuesday, December 12, the junior high girls basketball teams traveled to Goodland for competition. The girls came home with a couple more wins on their season resume. The A-team girls defeated Goodland 42-20. The B-team girls lost to Goodland by a score of 31-17. The girls played a complete C-team contest with St. Francis winning 21-17.

In the A-team game, St. Francis earned a trey by Mia Morrow and two buckets by Talexa Weeter to lead 7-4 after one quarter of play. In the second period, the Lady Indians received baskets from Ellee Krien and Morrow plus 4 of 6 free-throws from Jordan Faulkender. The Lady Cowgirls did not score a basket in the second period. The Lady Indians led 17-5 at halftime.

The Lady Indians continued to expand their lead in the third period. In the period, Ellee Krien added two baskets; Talexa Weeter provided a deuce, trey, and a free-throw; and Jordan Faulkender drained two more charity tosses. Goodland earned their first basket since the first quarter, a score by Kent. St. Francis led 30-10 at the third quarter break. Four different players scored for the Lady Indians in the final period with Faulkender adding 6 more to the St. Francis point total. St. Francis defeated Goodland in the A-team contest 42-20.

Scoring for the Lady Indians in the A-team contest were Jordan Faulkender 13, Talexa Weeter 12, Mia Morrow 7, Ellee Krien 6, and Lyden Lampe 4. The Lady Indians made 6 of 12 from the free-throw line. Goodland was led in scoring by Lehman with 9. Ensign added 6 to the Goodland total. The Cowgirls were 5 of 12 from the line.

In B-team action, each team made 7 field goals in the contest. The Lady Indians trailed 6-8 after one quarter of play. In the first period, the Lady Indians received 4 points from Lyden Lampe and 2 from Molly Gilliland. St. Francis would only earn one basket in the second period, a shot by Hailey Robbins, and trailed 8-16 at halftime.

B-team tip-off
Jesslynn Houtman (4) and Rian Zimbal (2) added to the St. Francis point total in the third period, but the deficit increased a bit more. The Lady Indians trailed by ten (14-24) after three periods. In the final period, the Lady Indians did not score a field goal, but earned three free-throws by Zimbal. St. Francis lost the B-team contest 17-31.

Scoring for St. Francis in the B-team contest were Rian Zimbal 5, Jesslynn Houtman 4, Lyden Lampe 4, Molly Gillliland 2, and Hailey Robbins 2. St. Francis made 3 of 11 from the free-throw line. Goodland was led in scoring by Holub with 14 and Nemecheck with 12. Goodland made 14 of 29 free-throw attempts.

St. Francis earned a win in the C-team. The Lady Indians earned baskets by Bree De Waal and Angela Ramirez in the first period. The teams were tied 4-all after one quarter of action. St. Francis took a commanding lead in the 2nd quarter scoring 9 points while the Lady Cowgirls only scored 2. After getting baskets from De Waal, Molly Gilliland, Hailey Robbins, and two baskets and a free-throw from Dani Broughman, the Lady Indians led 15-6 at halftime

Molly Gilliland scored all of St. Francis' points in the second half. St. Francis won the C-team game 21-17.

Scoring for the Lady Indians in the C-team contest were Molly Gilliland 8, Dani Broughman 5, Bree De Waal 4, Hailey Robbins 2, and Anglea Ramirez 2. St. Francis made 1 of 2 from the line. Goodland was led by Finley with 6 points. Goodland made 1 of 4 from the stripe.

The Lady Indians will not play until after Christmas break when they travel to Hoxie on January 4.
