Junior High B-Team Places 2nd
The junior high boys basketball team placed 2nd in the B-team division of the Northwest Kansas League Basketball Tournament on Saturday, December 16. The B-team played two games in Quinter on Saturday; winning one and losing one.
The B-team defeated Hoxie in the semi-finals on Saturday morning by a score of 46-15. St. Francis jumped out to a 15-6 lead after one quarter of play and led 21-10 at halftime. The Indians stretched the advantage to 32-12 after three quarters and cruised to a lop-sided win.
Scoring for the Indians in the contest were Preston Witzel 24, Ben Busse 20, and Colton Raile 2. The Indains made 12 treys in the contest and made 0 of 2 from the line.
In the championship contest versus Rawlins County, the Indians led 16-6 after one quarter of play, but did not score in the second period. Rawlins County took a 16-24 lead at halftime. Though the young Indians played hard, they could not catch the Buffaloes and ended up losing the game 28-45.
Ben Busse scored 25 points in the contest. Preston Witzel added 3. The Indians made 7 of 14 from the line. Rawlins County was led by J. Popp with 14 and B. Beckman with 12. The Buffs connected on 3 of 5 from the stripe.
The B-team won second place and were awarded 2nd place medals. The team finished the season with a record of 10 wins and 1 loss.
