Junior High Girls Spank Hoxie

On Thursday, January 4, the junior high girls basketball team traveled to Hoxie for competition. The Lady Indians came home with convincing victories over the home-standing Lady Indians of Hoxie. St. Francis won the B-team contest 33-12. The Lady Indian A-team defeated Hoxie 40-9. The St. Francis C-team lost a 10-minute game to Hoxie 0-2.

In B-team action, St. Francis jumped out to an 11-2 lead after one quarter of play. The Lady Indians received scoring from five different players in the period. Hoxie did not score in the second period, and the Lady Indians led 19-2 at halftime. Hoxie found the basket with more regularity in the second half getting 6 in the third period and 4 in the final quarter. It was not enough to overcome the large lead the Lady Indians had earned. St. Francis lead 29-8 after three quarters of play getting 6 from Miah Hackney and 4 from Janie Ramirez in the third period. St. Francis cruised to a 33-12 victory in the B-team contest.

Scoring for the Lady Indians in the B-team contest were:  Miah Hackney 16, Janie Ramirez 6, Rian Zimbal 4, Jesslynn Houtman 2, Lyden Lampe 2, Hailey Robbins 2, and Molly Gilliland 1. The Lady Indians made 3 of 7 from the free throw line in the game.  Hoxie was led by Dimas with 4 points. Hoxie was 0 of 4 from the stripe.

St. Francis jumped out to a slim 1st quarter lead (7-4) in the A-team contest. The Lady Indians held Hoxie to three free-throws in the second period enroute to a 17-6 halftime lead. St. Francis completely dominated the 2nd half outscoring Hoxie 23-3 in the final two quarters. The Lady Indians defeated Hoxie 40-9.

Scoring for St. Francis in the A-team game were Talexa Weeter 15, Lyden Lampe 6, Jordyn Faulkender 4, Jesslynn Houtman 4, McKenna Poling 3, Rian Zimbal 2, Hadleigh Hilt 2, Ellee Krien 2, and Mia Morrow 2. St. Francis made 2 of 11 from the stripe; Hoxie converted 5 of 8. Hoxie was led in scoring by M. Foote and H. Scheetz each with 3 points.

The Lady Indians will play in the Northwest Kansas League Junior High Girls Basketball Tournament in Sharon Springs on January 11 and 13.
