Lady Indians Spank CFE

The Lady Indians defeated the Christian Family Educators (CFE) Lady Falcons 78-12 on Tuesday, January 30, in St. Francis. Though the game was a mis-match, the effort expended by both teams was very good. St. Francis, with a wide-margin lead, maintained focus and executed well; the Lady Falcons continued to compete though the out-come was never in doubt.

St. Francis jumped out to a 19-2 advantage after one quarter of play and continued to extend the lead throughout the contest. Getting two baskets by Hanna Bracelin, a bucket by Lindsey Johnson, and a steal-two by Taighe Weeter, the Lady Indians jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the opening moments triggering a CFE time-out at 5:41. The Lady Indians' defensive pressure continued to create turnovers and the margin increased to 15-0 on a free-throw by Jylian Laten. The Lady Falcons scored at the 2:18 mark of the first period on a drive by Brenna Crow. An offensive rebound basket by Lauren Johnson and an out-of-bounds play bucket by Bracelin (assist Karly Bandel) completed the first period. St. Francis led at the break 19-2. Bracelin scored 10 points in the period.

A stick-back basket by Hannah Zimbal moved the score to 23-2 before the Lady Falcons scored again; this time on two free-throws by Crow. With everyone suited on both teams seeing plenty of action, the margin increased to 43-4 just before halftime on an assist by Emileigh Dinkel on a Taighe Weeter score. Weeter, Hanna Bracelin, and Lindsey Johnson each scored 6 or more points in the period.

The Lady Indians would score the first 15 points of the third period to extend the margin to 58-4, before the Lady Falcons scored again. St. Francis led 63-7 at the third quarter break with a addition of a trey by Lauren Johnson (assist Bracelin) at the buzzer.

The final period was played with a running clock. At 6:50, a steal and assist by Emma Johnson led to a lay-up by Karly Bandel. The basket increased the margin to 60 points (67-7). St. Francis won the contest 78-12.

Ten players scored in the contest for St. Francis. Hanna Bracelin led the Lady Indians with 18 points. Taighe Weeter added 17. Two others scored in double-figures; Lindsey Johnson with 11 and Hannah Zimbal with 10. Other Lady Indians scoring were Lauren Johnson 7, Alondra Gomez 4, Emileigh Dinkel 4, Jylian Laten 3, Karly Bandel 2, and Emma Johnson 2. The Lady Indians made 35 field goals and connected on 6 of 7 from the stripe. The Lady Indians only committed one turnover in the first half and 5 in the second half.

Senior Brenna Crow scored all 12 of the Lady Falcons points (3 field goals; 6 of 12 from the stripe).

St. Francis will play Hoxie on Friday, February 2, in St. Francis. Hoxie remains undefeated on the season and are ranked #3 by the KBCA. The Lady Indians lost to Hoxie in the semi-final contest of the NWKL Tournament 43-56.
