Tate Busse Slam Dunks New School Records

Tate Busse, senior at St. Francis Community High School, hit the milestone for 1,500 career points. Busse has shattered the school record for most career points and most dunks. The old record for most career points was 1,311 set by Andy Poling. Busse holds the new record with 1,554 points. The old record for most season dunks was seven set by Andy Poling but Busse holds that record now too. He set that record with nine his junior season. His senior season he had 12 dunks. Busse also holds the most points in a game with 46. Busse broke most three pointers in a game with ten. Busse has had multiple 30-plus point games throughout the season including as many as three dunks in one game.

“The main challenge I’ve faced during my basketball career is mainly playing in a smaller school. The only reason it has been a challenge is because my goal is to play college basketball, and I haven’t gotten as many offers as I’d like because many college coaches don’t think small town kids are good enough,” said Busse.

Busse’s dreams are coming true. In March, he signed to walk onto Wichita State University’s Division I basketball team.

Busse said he was excited and thankful to announce he is a Wichita State Shocker on social media.

“I have been playing basketball for as long as I can remember. I still remember when my grandpa was the coach and I’d come up everyday to his practice just to watch and work on my dribbling. I loved feeling like I was part of the team,” said Busse. “I think that I started to realize that I had a great passion for basketball as early as grade school. There would be days when it was freezing cold and snowing yet I’d still want to go outside and shoot. My passion for basketball has always been there and as I’ve gotten older it’s grown even stronger.”

Busse said playing for his dad has been a blessing as he recounted highlights from his high school basketball career.

“One of the most exciting moments would definitely be making it to state my junior year. It was awesome getting to play in front of so many people and know that they were all cheering us on. Playing for my dad has also been a blessing,” said Busse
