St. Francis to Host Volleyball Regional
St. Francis Community High School will be hosting one of eight Class 1 Regional Volleyball Tournaments this year. The host sites were announced by the Kansas State High School Activities Association on Friday, September 28.
Sixteen Class 1A Regional Tournaments will be conducted on Tuesday, October 16. The 1A schools are divided geographically into four areas/groups. Each group will have four regional tournaments with the same number of schools insofar as possible. The are 107 1A schools this year. Three groups will have 27 schools and one group will have 26 schools. In each group, four Regional Tournaments will be held with 6 or 7 competing schools.
St. Francis will host one of the Northwest Regional Tournaments on Tuesday, October 16. Participating teams in the St. Francis Regional are: Atwood-Rawlins County HS, Bird City-Cheylin HS, Sharon Springs-Wallace County HS, St. Francis HS, Tribune-Greeley County HS, Weskan HS, and Winona-Triplains-Brewster HS. Admission is $6 for adults and $5 for students. No passes will be accepted for admission.
All 1A Regional Tournaments will be conducted on one court. Tournaments with 7 schools will start at 2 p.m.; tournaments with 6 schools will start at 3 p.m. All Regional Tournament first and second place finishers will advance to the Sub-State Tournament as assigned.
The Regional Tournament was seeded on October 9 and the bracket can be viewed by clicking on this link. Results of the seeding are: 1 - St. Francis 24-6, 2 - Atwood-Rawlins County 20-9, 3 - Bird City-Cheylin 15-15, 4 - Sharon Springs-Wallace County 13-16, 5 - Weskan 9-15, 6 - Tribune-Greeley County 5-26, and 7 - Winona-Triplains/Brewster 0-25.
The top two teams from the St. Francis Regional will advance to the Sub-State Tournament to be held at Ransom-Western Plains High School on Saturday, October 20. The four Sub-State sites are divided into two Sub-State tournaments. One tournament will begin at 1 p.m. and the second one at 5 p.m.
