Tiernan Poling: Dirt Bike Rider, Wrestler, and so Much More

The wind is blowing at your face. The sound of an engine fills your ears. Your hand is on the throttle as you speed up more and more each second. You see the dirt ramp ahead of you and go even faster. The dust is trailing behind you. The ramp comes sooner than you expected, and you’re in the air, soaring up and back to the ground. This is Tiernan Poling’s favorite thing to do.

Tiernan Poling, a senior at SFCHS, is the dimple-faced, curly-haired, blue-eyed, young man who never fails to brighten his peers’ and his teachers’ day. “I try to be nice to those around me, I think it makes them and me feel better, so I try my best,” said Poling.

Poling has many hobbies including riding dirt bikes, fishing, wrestling, playing football, jet skiing, and hanging out with friends. Out of all of his hobbies riding dirt bikes is his passion and his dream is to become a pro dirt bike rider.

Poling has been an impressive wrestler for all of his high school career. He has been to state twice and plans on going for a third time this upcoming season. “I enjoy wrestling because I think I’m good at it and it’s always really fun to compete,” said Poling.

Poling has a lot more to him than what meets the eye. He aspires to be a doctor. He has not yet decided what college he would like to attend, but right now he is keeping his options until he settles on the right one. He hopes to get scholarship offers for wrestling.

Poling said his last year in high school is going by quickly. “It’s been really fun so far,” said Poling. “It’s kind of sad though, I’m going to miss my classmates when I graduate.”

Tiffany Poet, agriculture teacher, said she knows success is in Poling’s future. “[Tiernan] is a genuine, considerate, mature young man who is a great student. He’s also loyal and honest which are qualities that are hard to come by,” said Poet. Poet has taught Poling for three years and the two have gotten to know each other well. “When Tiernan figures out where his passions and skills align, I have no doubt he’ll find success in the future,” she said.

Steve Jenkins, psychology teacher, also spoke highly of Poling. “He’s very thoughtful, he’s tough, and he makes a great audience,” said Jenkins. “Tiernan has a quiet disposition that belies his fierce, competitive drive.” Jenkins said he thinks Poling is a wonderful student to have in class and is glad he has had the chance to teach him.

Poling is inspired by the thought of his potential success in the future. “I want to be a successful person in whatever I do, and that inspires me to try my best,” said Poling. He said he is excited for the future and can’t wait to see what it will bring.

Poling knows he will remember high school fondly. “I’ll remember all the good times I had,” said Poling. He said he would like to be remembered as an athletic and honorable student after he graduates SFCHS.

I, as his sister, can vouch for what his teachers say about him. I wish him luck in the future and I know he’ll do just fine. I know that he will do his best in whatever he tries to do.
