Sub-State Volleyball Tournament Saturday

The St. Francis Lady Indians earned a berth in the Northwest Region Sub-State Tournament with their runner-up finish in the Regional Volleyball Tournament on Tuesday, October 16. The Northwest Sub-State will be held in Ransom, Kansas, on Saturday, October 20, 2018. Two Sub-States will be held at the Northwest site at Western Plains High School in Ransom.

Only 32 of the 107 1A teams are still alive in post-season competition. The sixteen regional champions and runner-up teams now advance to one of four sub-state sites. Each site will host two 4-team sub-state tournaments. The first and second place teams from a regional tournament will be assigned to the same location and placed in different brackets.

The sub-state teams and pairings are determined in the following manner:
1. Seed the four regional winners 1, 2, 3 and 4.
2. Assign 1 and 4 to one sub-state and 2 and 3 to the other.
3. Assign second-place teams from each regional to the other sub-state away from the team who defeated them in the regional finals.
4. The two second-place teams will be paired with the two first-place teams according to their records. The first-place team with the better win-loss record will be paired with the second-place team with the poorest win-loss record.

St. Francis has been seeded into Sub-State A which begins at 1:00 p.m. Sub-State 2 will begin at 5 p.m. following the conclusion of Sub-State 1. The Lady Indians will play Wheatland-Grinnell at approximately 2 p.m. on Saturday. The winner will advance to the Sub-State Championship contest beginning at approximately 3 p.m. The Sub-State Champion will qualify for the State Volleyball Tournament to be held at Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas on October 26 and 27.
