Lady Coyotes Bite Lady Indians

The Lady Indians struggled through a cold-shooting performance at home on Tuesday, January 8. The Lady Indians did many things well, but shot poorly, and were defeated by the visiting Weskan Lady Coyotes. The Lady Coyotes superior height inside and an outstanding game from Jenna See proved to be more than the Lady Indians could overcome. St. Francis lost to Weskan 35-45 in varsity action. There was no junior game.

Weskan jumped out to a 0-4 lead receiving a driving score and basket in the lane by Jenna See (5' 4" Sr.). See would total 22 points on the evening. An assist from Karly Bandel led to an out-of-bounds play score by Hannah Zimbal, and at 5:08 Weskan took their first time-out. After returning to action, Lindsey Johnson's assist to Jordyn Faulkender in the post tied the contest at 4-all. Weskan's 6' 4" senior Josie Purvis made her presence known with a offensive rebound basket moments later. After a free-throw by Lindsey Johnson, Stephany Rother (5' 7" So.) added a free-throw for the Lady Coyotes. At 3:13, Lindsey Johnson scored the final points of the quarter; a left-wing trey that gave the Lady Indians a slim 8-7 advantage.

Lauren Johnson nailed a shot from the right corner to open the second period. Josie Purvis followed with a post basket for Weskan. At 4:25, Jenna See banked in a top-of-the key trey returning the lead to Weskan (10-12). A second trey by See on the next possession was followed by a See to Purvis lob leading to a 10-17 deficit. St. Francis called time-out at 3:15 to regroup. After returning to action, Lindsey Johnson made a trey from the right wing narrowing the margin to four. A free-throw by Weskan's Brylee Aldridge (5' 6" Sr.) was followed by a top-of-the-key trey by Lauren Johnson. Aldridge added a trey before the half closed. St. Francis trailed 16-21 at halftime.

The Lady Indians received a right-wing deuce from Lauren Johnson and a strong post score by Hannah Zimbal over the must larger Purvis to open the third period. Weskan called time-out at 7:01. St. Francis would only score once more in the period. See and Purvis took over. Two lobs from See to Purvis added four more to the Weskan total. See then added two free-throws after being fouled on a drive, and Purvis added a stick-back basket. See's floater in the lane (plus one) moved the scoreboard to 20-32. Rother then scored on an assist from See over the top of the Sainty press. Jordyn Faulkender picked up her 4th foul attempting to stop Purvis inside. Purvis added another free-throw to extend the deficit to 15 (20-35). Karly Bandel ended the Weskan 14-point run with a trey from the top-of-the-key. Purvis scored again at the opposite end from the post. The final points of the quarter came after a Lady Indian turnover led to floater in the lane by See at the buzzer. St. Francis had fallen behind 23-39. Both See and Purvis had matched or out-scored the Sainty team during the quarter.

Karly Bandel drained back-to-back treys to begin the final period. The flurry moved the Lady Indians within 10 (29-39). See then earned a free-throw and went coast-to-coast for two more. Brylee Aldridge's free-throw was followed by two charity tosses by Hannah Zimbal. Weskan took another time-out at 4:03 leading 31-43. Shortly after returning to action, See added another free-throw. Lauren Johnson scored a right-wing deuce and Zimbal added two more free-throws. At 0:33, Weskan took a final time-out leading 35-44. See would add one more free-throw to the Lady Coyotes total. St. Francis lost to Weskan 35-45.

Weskan was led in scoring by Jenna See with 22 and Josie Purvis with 15 points. Brylee Aldridge added 5. The Lady Coyotes made 10 of 23 from the line, committed 19 turnovers, and had 8 fouls.
