Indians Move to 4-0

The Indians looked sharp in their first game of district play on Friday, September 27. The Indians defeated the Decatur Community Red Devils 48-2 on Greene Field in St. Francis. The Red Devils entered the contest unbeaten having defeated Quinter (42-0), Dighton (42-14), and Wallace County (46-0).

The Indians started fast and dominated throughout the contest. The Indians led 42-2 at halftime and scored on their first offensive play of the second half. The game ended with 8:04 remaining in the third period due to the 45-point rule.

The Indians took the opening kickoff and marched 62 yards on their opening possession to score. Brady Dinkel carried the ball in from 32 yards out three minutes into the contest. Josiah Sims ran for the conversion points giving the Indians an 8-0 advantage before the Red Devils had received a possession.

The Red Devils fumbled the football on the third play of their first possession deep in St. Francis territory. Adam Krien recovered the football for the Indians. In just a few plays, Brady Dinkel scored on a 3-yard plunge up the middle behind good line blocking. Josiah Sims carried on the conversion try. St. Francis led 16-0 early in the first period.

The Indian defense forced the Red Devils to punt the ball away on the fourth play of their next possession. The Indians quickly moved the football using a strong running attack and soon Brady Dinkel scored on a 5-yard run. Josiah Sims ran successfully for the conversion placing the Indians at a 24-0 advantage.\

After another Red Devil punt on fourth down, Shardyon Blanka powered for a 57-yard touchdown run. The conversion try failed, but the Indians led 30-0 late in the first period.

Early in the second period, the Red Devils began to move the football a bit and eventually backed up the Indians deep in their own territory. On a play you will not see very often, Brady Dinkel dropped back to pass from the end zone, slipped and scrambled, eventually completing a pass to Shadryon Blanka in the end zone. Blanka was tackled by the Red Devils before he could escape the end zone resulting in a safety. The score was the first points scored against the Indians this season. The play moved the scoreboard to 30-2.

Decatur Community seemed to be rejuvenated by the safety and began to show some prowess on offense moving the ball against the Indians much better than they had done early in the contest. Though the Red Devils moved the ball up field, the Indian defense held strong and regained the football without allowing another score. Brady Dinkel scored on a 45-yard run on the next St. Francis possession. The conversion try failed, but St. Francis now led 36-2.

On the second Indian possession of the period, Dinkel scored on a 72-yard run. It was his 5th touchdown of the game. St. Francis led 42-2 at halftime.

The Indians kicked off to the Red Devils to open the second half. The Red Devils were forced to punt on 4th down and the Indians took possession at their 31 yard line. On the first play of the possession, Shadryon Blanka sprinted untouched up the middle for the final Indian touchdown. St. Francis defeated Decatur Community 48-2.

St. Francis will play Hoxie (3-1) on Friday, October 4, in Hoxie.
