Indians Host Invitational
The 60th annual St. Francis Gabel-Jenkins Invitational Wrestling Tournament was held in St. Francis on Saturday, December 7, 2019. Six Indian wrestlers competed in the competition. St. Francis placed 10th in the tournament scoring 34 team points. Junior Garin Cooper placed 4th at 132 pounds. Junior Shadryon Blanka won the championship at 195 pounds.
Eleven teams competed for the team championship with Wray winning the championship with 184 team points. Goodland finished a distant second with 118 points. The remainder of the teams finished in the following order: 3rd - Wakeeney-Trego Community 79; 4th - Atwood-Rawlins County 75; 5th - Norton 73.5; 6th (tie) - Leoti-Wichita County 69; 6th (tie) - Sterling 69; 8th - Burlington 67; 9th - Holyoke 42; 10th - St. Francis 34; and 11th - Brewster 11. Norton's Kolton Field (120 lb.) was selected at the Outstanding Wrestler of the Tournament by a vote of the coaches.
