Neitzel finds inspiration for future career path

By Rian Zimbal

Do you ever find yourself wondering why someone acts a certain way? Well, Colton Neitzel does. He was planning on pursuing his interest in psychology or engineering by attending Kansas State University.

“I am very curious in the field of psychology because I would like to learn how the mind works and why people do what they do,” Neitzel said.

Neitzel is involved in many extracurricular activities. He is a part of Pleasant Hill 4H club, football, basketball, and track teams, and FFA. He spends a majority of his free time doing the things he loves: farming, drawing, creating things, and participating in sports with his friends.

“I like drawing because it relaxes my mind,” Neizel said. “I can do whatever I want in the drawings. I will have sparks of (inspiration) stuff to do and I’ll do it even if I’m doing something.”

While farming, Neitzel enjoys his time alone in his tractor. He says he is an introvert and has taught him to be “calm, cool, and collected.”

“You can get away and be in your own element,” Neitzel claims.

Neitzel’s love for sports has been present for a long time. Participating in sports has taught him many beneficial life lessons, such as leadership. He enjoys helping people in sports and encouraging the younger kids that they “... can do things they may not have thought they have been able to do.”

Adam Krien said one of his favorite memories from his classmate Colton is when they were win little league basketball.

“We were playing in a little league basketball tournament and he made the game winning shot” Adam Krien said, “I remember we all jumped around and were super excited for our win!”

Neitzel would like to think of himself as a role model for little kids.

“One of my biggest accomplishments is having little kids look up to me,” Neitzel said, “It is such a nice feeling to have [little kids] come up and talk to me.”

Shadryon Blanka said Colton is helpful and supportive.

“Colton is always willing to help with any questions you may have,” Blanka said.  “He is fun to be around and super supportive of all things!”

Neitzel said his favorite memory included state basketball.

“When we walked into the United Wireless Arena for state basketball, that was my favorite high school memory,” he said. “Because it was a way different place than our gym.”

Neitzel imparted some wisdom on underclassmen.

“Don’t think college is a long ways away,” he said. “It’s never too early to apply for college. Get your homework done early, and enjoy all the activities during school.”
