Oakley Defeats St. Francis in NWKL Football

The Indian football team traveled to Oakley tonight to compete against the Plainsmen in a NWKL football game.  The recent tradition of the Oakley-St. Francis game has been one of excellence between two of the better teams in the NWKL.  This night was no exception.  Oakley won the hard fought battle by scoring in the closing seconds of the game.

St. Francis scored on the first play from scrimmage when Ted Crabtree ran for an 84 yard touchdown.  Ted also scored the conversion points to give the Indians an 8-0 lead.  Oakley scored on a 23 yard run with 7:53 left in the 1st quarter.  The conversion try failed and Sainty lead 8-6.

Saint Francis completed a 96 yard drive by scoring in the closing moments of the 2nd quarter on a 1 yd run.  The conversion try failed. St. Francis led 14-6 at halftime.

Oakley scored on a 3 yard run set up by a long pass play with 10:35 remaining in the 3rd quarter to tie the game at 14-14.  The conversion points failed.

The final score of the game came with 11 seconds remaining when Oakley completed an 11 yard pass for a touchdown.  Final score:  Oakley 20--St. Francis 14.
