Winter Sport Seasons Underway
Launch the media gallery 1 playerPractice for the high school winter sports seasons began on November 17th. Since that time both the athletes and coaches have been working hard to perfect the skills and understanding necessary for success during the upcoming seasons.
The girls basketball team has 20 members. Coach Larry Flemming is in his first year as head coach after serving several seasons as an assistant coach. He will be assisted by Susan Dinkel. Susan coached high school basketball several years ago and has returned to the bench beside Coach Flemming.
Girls participating in high school basketball are seniors Sidnee Crabtree, Elizabeth Gienger, Andrea Holzwarth, Kristin Froberg, Jami Pevler, and Joni Pevler; juniors Ksenia Lelesh, Charlotte Roosen, and Kaycee Williams; sophomores Mikaela Grace, Christina Hilt, Jodie Hilt, Shayla Hilt, Aly Marin, and Sarah Trembly; and freshmen Tilyn Bell, Kaitlin Figgins, Ashlynn Lambert, Jacquelyn Ketzner, and Christina Schoenrogge,
The boys basketball team also has a new head coach. Jeff Beims will be beginning his first year as varisty coach after serving several years as a junior high and assistant high school coach. Coach Biems will be assisted by Devin Dinkel.

They include seniors Trent Kinen, Jacob Riedel, Sam Sowers, and Ethan Zweygardt; juniors Alex Long, Ben Neitzel, Matt Raile, Trent Raile, and Drew Zweygardt; sophomores Garrett Figgins, Brooks Hobrock, Cody Killingsworth, Brett Lampe, Tyler Lauer, Ryan Owens, Braden Schmid, and Zach Zweygardt; freshmen Jonathan Butler, Gavin Cooper, Martin Hnizdil, Aaron Nichols, Sam Reed, Isaac Schiltz, Brock Zweygardt, and Ty Zweygardt. Brandon Keeker will serve as manager for the team. Dale Northrup and Caitlin Northrup will film games for both the girls and boys teams.
Mike Frewen returns as the head wrestling coach. He will be assisted by Kyle Buffington and Brad Matthies. The athletes involved in wrestling are seniors Jesse Pacheco and Scott Ford; juniors Grady Brunk, Terrance Lamb, Freddy Pacheco, and Darris Keller; sophomores Adam Guthmiller, Cody Sherlock, Ryan Draper, Thomas McCurry, Brandon McGinnis, and Robbie Herman; Logan Whitmore, David Leibbrandt, Ross Nicklos, and Nathan Lamb. Taylor Kennedy, Lexi Hilt, and Chauntel Peter will serve as mat maids.
Launch the media gallery 3 playerThe winter sports season opens on December 4th, when the boys and girls basketball teams will travel to Benkelman, Nebraska to compete against the Dundy County/Stratton Tigers. Game time is 5:00 PM.
The high school wrestling team will open their 2008 season on Saturday, December 6th, when they host the St. Francis Invitational Wrestling Tournament. Action begins at 9:30 AM.
