Two Indians Qualify for State Wrestling Tournament

Two St. Francis Indian wrestlers have earned the right to represent St. Francis in the 321A State Wrestling Tournament. The tournament will be held in Gross Coliseum on the campus of Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas. The tournament will begin on Friday, February 26, and conclude on Saturday, February 27.

Adam
The top four placers at the regional tournament qualified for the state tournament. Senior Terrence Lamb won third place at the Norton Regional at 135 pounds. Junior Adam Guthmiller placed 4th at 189 pounds. These two wrestlers will represent St. Francis in the state tournament.

As predicted, the Norton Regional was a very tough tournament. Seven of the ten top ranked teams in the state were in the tournament. Fifty-four of the 80 highest ranked wrestlers were also participating. 

Norton Community High School won the team championship by a large margin. They totaled 218 team points. Phillipsburg placed second with 132 points and Hoxie third with 111. Other team placings were 4th--Oakley (110); 5th--Smith Center (108.5); 6th--Atwood-Rawlins County (99); 7th--Hays-TMP (81); 8th--Goodland (79.5); 9th--Beloit (77.50); 10th--Plainville (68.5); 11th--Osborne (63); 12th--Oberlin-Decatur County (61.5); 13th--Ellis (52); 14th--St. Francis (51.5); 15th--Belleville-Republic Co. (22); 16th--Hill City (17); 17th--Stockton (14); 18th--WaKeeney-Trego Community (9.5); 19th--Mankato-Rock Hills (2.5); 20th--(tie) Scandia-Pike Valley and Bird City-Cheylin (0).
