Terrence Lamb Earns State Medal

Preparing to wrestle

Two St. Francis Indians earned a berth in the state wrestling tournament by placing in the top four positions at the Regional Wrestling Tournament in Norton. Terrence Lamb and Adam Guthmiller represented St. Francis in the state tournament at Gross Memorial Coliseum in Hays on Friday and Saturday, February 26 and 27.

Adam
Adam failed to place at 189 pounds, but represented St. Francis well. Adam met undefeated and number-one ranked Tate Omli of Brookville-Ell-Saline in his first match. Adam lost by fall (0:55) to Omli. In his second match, Adam lost by fall (2:40) to Tyler Lowe of Eureka. Omli went on to win the championship at 189 and completed an undefeated season.

Terrence
Terrence placed fourth in the state tournament at 135 pounds. Terrence's first match was against Seph Iman of Elkhart. Terrence defeated Iman by major decision (13-5). Terrence also won his second match over Kiefer Hurla of Rossville; winning by fall (5:33). Kale Newell of Smith Center defeated Terrence in the championship semifinal match by a 10-5 decision. Terrence then defeated Chase Mayfield of Eureka by a 3-1 decision to advance to the third place match. In the third place match, Terrence again met Kiefer Hurla of Rossville. Hurla defeated Terrence in their second match (11-5) to win third place.

St. Francis placed 37th as a team in the state tournament with 15 points. Norton won the team championship by a large margin scoring 174.5 team points. Smith Center was a distant second with 80.5 points. Oakley was third in the team standings with 68 points.
