Junior High Track Season Concludes at NWKL Meet
The Northwest Kansas League Junior High Track and Field Meet was held on Friday, May 14th, in Goodland. The meet was held in the morning and early afternoon so that an automatic timing system could be be used. The high school NWKL meet began when the junior high meet concluded.
The St. Francis 8th grade boys team placed 3rd in the team standings scoring 64 points. The 7th grade Lady Indians placed 4th with 77 points. The 7th grade boys team placed 7th while the 8th grade girls placed 8th. St. Francis athletes won nine events in the meet. Cade Bracelin set a new school record in the discus throwing 126' 6". The old record was held by Kyle Buffington (126' 4" set in 1999). Brianna Cooks set a new NWKL record in the 7th grade girls shot throwing 35' 0". Mason Schiltz attempted to set a new NWKL record in the pole vault by attempting 11'1" and narrowly missing. Valerie Wurm tied the 7th grade girls school record in the pole vault clearing 7' 0".
Final team scores for the 8th grade boys: 1st-Goodland (178.5); 2nd-Colby (98); 3rd-St. Francis (64); 4th-Decatur Community (53); 5th-Oakley (51); 6th-Quinter (45); 7th-Rawlins County (17.5); and 8th-Hoxie (17).
