Jude Faulkender Wins Spelling Bee

Austin Patton Places Second

Jude Faulkender--Cheyenne County Spelling Bee Champion

The Cheyenne County Spelling Bee was held at Cheylin High School on Tuesday, February 4th. All the students entered in the contest were good spellers having earned a competing position through spelling activities in their various classrooms.

St. Francis 7th grader Jude Faulkender earned the title of Cheyenne County Spelling Bee champion by spelling several difficult words. Austin Patton, also a St. Francis seventh grader, placed second in the contest.

St. Francis was represented by three students from each class in grades 4 through 8. The following students participated in the spelling bee representing St. Francis Schools. 

4th Grade:  Kyla Hicks, Lauren Johnson, and Tayton Weeter

5th Grade:  Devin Patton, Luke Lampe, and McKinley Bartels

6th Grade: Joel Hill, Ryan Grover, and Sophie White

7th Grade: Sydney Sundstrom, Jude Faulkender, and Austin Patton

8th Grade:  Aby Fernandez, Valerie Wurm, and McKayla Taylor

The students spelled many difficult words during the competition. Some of the words the students spelled were: sensibility, narrate, reversible, wrestle, novice, lawful, oxygen, crocodile, penalty, thorax, navigator, monetary, sashay preliminary, feverishly, suffrage, pedicure, vintage,counterclockwise, exoskeleton, gimmick, enzyme, solicit, grievance, thespian, whisperer, indomitable, raspberry, prejudice, abracadabra, unanimous, grammarian, inoculate, aborigine, cistern, succinct, monstrosity, surmountable, herringbone, millennium, and impudent. The following words were spelled to determine the championship between the two seventh grade boys: zigzaggedness, lugubrious, woebegone, supplicate, and hexagonal.
