TPB Defeats Lady Indians

The Triplains-Brewster (TPB) Lady Titans handed the Lady Indians a 45-61 loss on Friday evening, December 12. The Lady Titans lead by twelve points after one quarter and continued to pull away throughout the contest to win the game and advance to the championship game of the Sagebrush Classic. The Lady Indians had difficulty with the superior height of the Lady Titans and the quick transition game of TPB's excellent guard Shana Rogge.

The Lady Titans opened the contest with scores on an out-of-bounds play, a fast-break, and a baseline jumper to lead 0-6.The margin narrowed to 4-6 after a Kylie Sherlock jumper from the right elbow and a steal-two by Kayla Reed. Unfortunately, the Lady TItans scored the next ten points (two offensive rebound baskets, two drives, and a nice post move) to lead 6-16 at the first quarter break.

Hanna Bracelin opened the second period with a post-move bucket, but the Lady TItans quickly answered with a fast-break basket. Kyla Bandel made a shot from the top-of-the-key to bring the margin back to ten. The deficit expanded to 16 points after the Lady Titans made two free throws and scored twice on fast-break baskets (8-24). The Lady Indians scored only one field goal in the final six minutes of the second period. Bracelin scored on a shot from the left wing and Reagan Beims made 3 of 6 charity stripe attempts to close out the first half. The Lady Indians trailed 13-32 at halftime.

The Lady Indians scored more efficiently in the third period. St. Francis earned baskets by Journey Lee (drive), Kyla Bandel (trey), and Hanna Bracelin (right elbow jumper) in the opening minutes of the quarter. Even though the Lady Indians were scoring, the Lady Titans continued to increase their lead. The deficit mounted to 21 points (20-41) after an offensive rebound basket by the Lady Titans midway through the period. Kyla Bandel scored eleven consecutive points for the Lady Indians in the closing minutes of the third period. The Lady Indians had made a move, but still trailed 31-41 after three quarters of play.

The Lady Indian run extended into the fourth period. The Lady Indians scored on a quick basket to open the fourth quarter. Kayla Reed also converted a free-throw. Hanna Bracelin followed with a jumper from the left elbow. The Lady Indians were looking good, and had trimmed the deficit to 36-41. The Lady Titans recovered and scored the next eight points; two of the baskets coming after Lady Indian turnovers (36-51). The Lady Indians could not overcome the large lead surrendered in the first half, even though their effort to do so was valiant, and lost the contest 45-61.

Kyla Bandel led all scorers with 23 points (14 in the 3rd period). Shana Rogge scored 22 for the Lady Titans. Other Lady Indians scoring in the contest were Hanna Bracelin 12, Reagan Beims 3, Kayla Reed 3, Journey Lee 2, and Kylie Sherlock 2. The Lady Indians made 4 of 13 attempts from the line. Roulier (12) and Lamb (10) were also in double figures for the Lady Titans. TPB made 6 of 15 free-throws.

The Lady Indians will play Weskan for third place on Saturday, December 13, in the South gym at Brewster High School.
