Football Playoff Formula Information

With the win over the Rawlins County Buffaloes on Friday night, the Indians became the District 8 champions in 8-man football. The top four teams from each of eight districts advance to the State Football Championship Bracket for Class A - 8 Player - Division I. The week 9 game (the Bi-District round) will be a match up of teams from various districts according to how they qualified for post-season play using their district play records. St. Francis (the District 8 #1 seed) will play Washington County (the district 7 #4 seed) on Greene Field in St. Francis on Thursday, October 31, in the Bi-District Playoff contest. Due to the long distance between the two schools (257 miles), the contest is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. kick-off.

The Regional contest will be played on Friday, November 8th. If the Indians continue to advance, they would face the winner of Hill City and Trego Community on Greene Field in St. Francis on November 8th. That contest will kick-off at 7:00 p.m.

The Sectional and Sub-State contest sites will be determined by the formula below. (Information adapted from the KSHSAA Football Manual and website.)

DETERMINING PLAYOFF GAME HOSTS 2019 SEASON

Classifications 3A, 2A, 1A, 8-player Div. I, and 8-player Div. II

The first round host (week #9) will always be the district winner and runner-up.

2. The higher seeding team will host the regional playoff game.

3. The number of times a school has hosted a playoff round game this year is the first factor considered in determining a host site between two schools BEFORE considering the “East-West” formula. The host school will be the school hosting the least number of playoff games this year. If both teams have hosted an equal number of playoff games, then the East-West formula will be used to determine the host site.

4. If the “East-West” formula is used to determine which of two schools will host, the formula is as follows this year (an odd numbered year):

Farthest east school will serve as host in these rounds/classes:

Sectional round = 8-Player DI and 8-Player DII
Sub-State round = 3A, 2A and 1A

Farthest west school will serve as host in these rounds/classes:

Sectional round = 3A, 2A and 1A
Sub-State round = 8-Player DI and 8-Player DII

Classifications 6A, 5A and 4A

1. All playoff games will be hosted by the higher seeded team in each round of the playoffs.

State Championship Games

1. State Championship Games will use an east/west formula for determining the home team. For 2019, the team on the TOP of the bracket will be considered the Home team and will wear dark jerseys. The team on the BOTTOM of the bracket will be considered the Visiting team and will wear white jerseys.
