JH Home track quad (April 29, 2021)

Bree De Waal

The Junior High tack team had their home quad this week on Thursday. They were competing against Rawlins County, Yuma County, and Decatur County. The girls finished in first place against the other teams with a total of 86 points, six points above Rawlins County. The boys finished in second place behind Rawlins County with a total of 49 points.

The Junior High track team is made up of 50 students. Saint Francis, has not had a junior high track team this size for many years.

Eighth grader Michelle Palasio said she enjoyed socializing with other teams. “ It is fun getting to know other people from other towns and when we are about to do our events for all of the other teams to be so supportive and say good luck,” said Palasio. She is going to miss her friends next year, since she won’t get to see them as much.

Traci Price is a junior high track coach. “We only had eighth graders knowing anything about track the beginning of the season, with seventh and sixth graders it was like trying to herd cats,” said Price.

Ethan Graham seventh grader got fourth overall in the 200 meter at the home track meet Thursday. “My favorite part was getting first in my [heat] in the 200 at the home track meet,” said Graham.
